Didi Benami drawing by xnicoley Didi Benami drawing by xnicoley
So here's number 4 of 10 of the American Idols this season.
I'm excited to be getting them done now. :P

Didi looks a bit like Taylor Swift here. Surprising.

Should I continue to post the rest of the idol drawings that I plan on doing? Hmm...
I'm a bit curious.

Anyway, here it is. :3

This is expertly drawn. Seems like you captured how the shadows around eyes are darker than the rest of her skintone, which makes it more dramatic and engaging. :)

I am glad you think the eyes and the shades and shadows makes it so engaging. That's a great compliment, so thank you
I really enjoyed drawing it, and eyes are my absolute favorite thing to draw. :XD:
So thank you :D

I love how haunting her eyes looked=) What kind of paper do you use by the way?

I apologize for the long response. :XD:
Honestly this will probably seem bad, but I used plain computer paper on this straight out of my printer. :XD: It's nothing special or anything like that. I do use good art paper for other drawings I do, but with the whole set of American Idol drawings, I can't really afford to use my good paper on all 10 of them. Art supplies are so expensive and sometimes I try to stay cheap, haha.
Using regular computer paper is very difficult when trying to shade with a lot of detail.
Other than that, on other drawings, I use strathmore drawing paper. (I think it's 300 series?)
but lately, on drawings other than the idols, I have been using bristol smooth vellum paper.

Wow I really salute you I have difficulty shading even on art paper and I've tried printing paper and in the end I was so rattled by it I swore never to use them again.:D I did something silly now; I've bought watercolor paper and tried to use it to draw portraits:P Maybe I should have used the smoother side I don't know:D

Ahh, I've been really busy. Sorry for the long wait on the response, but I did plan on responding! Haha, printer paper can be quite the challenge. it can be quite annoying other times too. I still use it though when I don't want to waste my good paper. Wow, watercolor paper. :XD: I don't think I could use that. If it had a lot of texture I think I'd flip out. I cannot do a lot of texture that well.. I like making it look as smooth as I can so I think using a lot of textured paper would give me a headache. :XD:

Nice detail of her eyes! ;)

What do you usually use in your drawigs? Graphite pencils, mechanical pencils or both?

Uhh I use graphite pencils. I never turn the pencils on their side though, like some teachers try to teach. I can never turn my pencil on its side and put pencil lead down and like the way it looks. So since I never really do that, I figure I could use the same type of lead in mechanical pencils and pull off pretty much the same effect.

and I'm glad you like her eyes, I did as well :D

Well, is very curious to know the way that you make the shades in your drawings, it's something unusual.

But normally we ("pupils") don't turn the pencils like the teachers usually try to teach us. It's annoying for them xD

I use my finger a lot when I draw.. I think it's because I get impatient and just go for that. haha.
Of course I can't do that when I use colored pencils, but for graphite, it works well for me.

In 10th grade, my art teacher told my class to get regular pencils so that we could shade, and she specifically said, "No mechanical pencils! You can't shade with mechanical pencils."
and I had her class in 9th grade, so she knew a bit of my art background... and right after, she paused and said, "Well, except for Nicole, she is the only one I know that manages to shade with a mechanical pencil." :XD:
I never use mechanical pencils now, but I used to because that's the only kind of pencil I used at the time. :P Still pretty funny coming from an art teacher though, when they encouraged regular pencils just so we could turn them on their side to shade. Tsk tsk.

LOL I see that you are or at least were a lucky pupil!
Every drawing teacher loves you, so they let you shade your drawings in a way that you want. ;)

I used to use the fingers a lot in my drawings, but I discovered a thing to don't dirt my fingers so much, blending sticks. xD

How old are you?

Haha, I'm sure not every drawing teacher loved me then. :XD:

I use tortillion stumps sometimes, and for the longest time I didn't use my fingers, but I just get impatient nowadays and prefer the look of it. I could never get into using tissues or cotton swabs like quite a few artists do. :P

and I'm 19.

Post whatever you like! It's all beautiful and well drawn and this is no exception. Your hair never ceases to amaze me.
Have you ever drawn Taylor Swift before? You should try, I found her quite fun. Reminds me of a cat...

Haha I drew an outline out for Taylor Swift about a year and a half ago and I just couldn't seem to get motivated enough to finish the drawing of her.
I think I'd get incredibly frustrated if I tried drawing her hair for real. :XD:

and thanks! :D I was just curious if everyone wanted to see the rest of the idol drawings or if they were kind of getting old by now, haha, and yet I still have 6 to go. :P
